A similar concept. People have free will, though. They can change. The Devil is what he is, there's literally nothing else he can be, no possibility of change. That's why they're called essentials.

I suppose that makes sense. And there isn't anyone else that can change him? Anyone he fears?

Hardly. I am the opposite of a hero, Draco. Or a savior. I'm not selfless or a champion of the greater good. I haven't saved anyone, probably not even myself. I'm just Sophie.

...before he died, Dumbledore was telling me a story about a boy who made all of the wrong choices. Sometimes now I wonder if he meant himself. [And judging by his expression, Dumbles is a hard subject, too.]

I'm not sure there's anyone who isn't that boy sometimes. Or a lot of the time. All anyone can do is what they can do. Even if that doesn't seem like enough.

[she sighs into his hair]

You'll have to tell me about him someday, if you think I'm like him somehow. Not today, though.

I know...and I know. [But he snorts suddenly.] What the hell is the big deal about Pansy though? Shouldn't that fall into the same category as my other friends?

Not when you phrase it as 'my girlfriend, Pansy', no. You're worried she'll be jealous of me, of course she's going to be jealous of a girl who's known you all your life and bossed you around and kissed you if she felt like it.

Ex. [He's just going to emphasize that point to see if it changes Sophie's answer.]

I don't really understand jealousy very well. But Jade seems to. She's jealous of girls you love, because you loved them first.

But that's not my fault! I've known Pans since I was about four or five. How is it my fault I decided to try dating her when we were twelve? Yes, I dated her for almost four years, and yes I may have loved Pansy at some point, but that's the point. At some point. Same with Rapunzel. It's all in the past so why is she upset?

[I don't know, Draco, why are you still mad at Harry for rejecting you seven years ago?]
