[conan's hat is getting smushed onto his head]

[There is some entirely ineffectual flailing before the hat is removed and Conan is free to start shedding layers. He huffs as he begins the laborious task of unwinding the first of two scarves.]

Do you want to order now? By the time I'm out of all of this, our drinks will be ready.

[Wrestling with a sweater that seems to have swallowed him whole.]

The house blend, black, no sugar. You'll probably want to try either their vanilla latte or the caramel machiatto. Both sweet, but the latte is creamier.

[she will let him struggle while she orders, but if he's still not free of his clothes by the time she returns she'll actually help]

[They are both spared that embarrassment. Conan's managed to wriggle himself free of the sweater-demon and is neatly folding the excessive amount of knitwear onto a third chair.]

[thank you for this small favor, conan. she sets the coffees on the table and slides his toward the non-knitwear chair before taking a seat herself. despite the awkwardness of this on a coffee-shop chair, she still tucks one foot underneath her while waiting for conan to sit]

[There's a slight pause before a rather pink and ruffled looking Conan climbs up on his seat, pulling his coffee towards him with a grateful nod. There's a moment of silence of just appreciation for the coffee.]

[she takes a careful sip of her coffee. it is possible that every time conan sees sophie the circles under her eyes are darker, but her manner hasn't changed at all]

He could have been worse. The lost lamb.

[Conan nods.]

He had enough bite to be interesting, but then he wound up telling me about his best friend's girlfriend.

[Those are some circles, Sophie.]

...somehow that doesn't seem appropriate conversation for a seven year old. But then, he also did tell me that if he was a skinchanger he'd use it to be other people.

[they are really impressive. kinda like she barely sleeps at all]

Pretty sure he wasn't aware who he was talking to. [Which is another kind of special.] Highly encouraging. He really knows how to make an impression!

Observant, too. I would guess he is my age, and yet.

[she facepalms, shaking her head a bit, which is where she still is when he asks about her sleeping habits]

I do sleep. Occasionally.

[it takes a long moment of consideration and a sip of coffee for sophie to come to a conclusion on that]

I don't sit well within myself here. No matter how I try to fill in the hours, there's too much empty time.

I work in Sam's apothecary, practice at the Citadel, train with Connor in the morning, practice this-- [she pulls the shadow of her hand on the table up her forearm as though it takes no effort at all, and it winds through her fingers as a serpent before slithering back down to be a shadow again] --read, follow the network...

It does seem fast.
