[like she doesn't know that the question is there. because she certainly doesn't have this exact same issue at all. but the kissing can continue until they need to breathe]

When I was talking to Draco, he pointed out that either you're a complete masochist or you really liked me, to stay after...all that. And you're really not a masochist. But you're still here. That's just one reason.

I don't plan on going anywhere, either, but it might be time to explain just how nuts I was for a little perspective.

[his tone shifts a little]

[he's quiet for awhile then tugs her down for cuddles, resting his chin on the top of her head]

[she wraps herself around him, wiggling to get one of her arms behind his back]

Part of who we are is who we were. Maybe not a big part, but it still affects how people see you.

[she wiggles out from under his chin to look at him]

I'm not particularly flighty, Connor. Who you were informs how you're seen, it's true. But it doesn't override who you are.

[she shrugs a little]

As though I'm sure of what I am? You're Connor, and I know that's tangled and complicated, but I don't really care. No, I do care, but I care because the tangled and complicated is what makes you you, and I--

[her words catch in her throat, because she's not sure either of them are really ready for her to complete that sentence]

[he doesn't know the end of the sentence, but is quiet for a moment while he shakes off the daddy brood]

I'm sorry. You probably didn't think a compliment would make me freak out, huh?

[let one of them remain oblivious, excellent. she presses her lips to his chin]

[he's relaxing slowly, hand back in her hair where it pretty much lives.]

Well. I can live with you thinking I'm amazing. What did Draco want to know, though?

[her tone is lighter than she feels, but him relaxing makes her relax, and she tucks herself back under his chin again]

How I managed to end up with an amazing boyfriend when I very obviously don't possess a single romantic bone in my body, sort of. Very sort of.

[okay at least this time when she says it he just blushes]

That might depend. What do you two consider romantic?

Courting things, I suppose? Roses and grand gestures and girls being protected and that sort of thing. Performance, not feelings. He believes in some of that, I really don't.

Flowers are nice? Okay, I don't consider the rest romantic. It's old-fashioned chivalry, courting was a process where you had to follow steps to be able to marry someone. That kind of thing doesn't apply anymore. Women these days aren't in the same place in society, at least I wouldn't assume anyone needs to be protected. Grand gestures are out of style, they're just embarrassing... what's actually romantic to me is something the other person would appreciate.

[he thinks for a moment, quiet]

If you were to look in a shop window at something you can't afford, and I remember that, and save up, and get it for you as a surprise. If I had a bad day and you make my favorite thing. A backrub without asking, watching a sunrise together but only watching it on your face.

Things that show how you feel are romantic.

[he is getting squeezed a bit, because he put that into words so much better than she did]

Thoughtfulness. Doing things because they're real, not because they're what someone decided.

Whoever decided didn't seem to realize that everyone is different. That's why it's thoughtless.

[okay we are back to completely comfy and snuggled]

[snuggling is excellent, and she lets go of that last bit of tension so that she's more or less just draped on him like a bony throw blanket]

So we talked about where some things had gone wrong for him and how they might not go wrong this time if he tried something different. And he's going to be very upset with me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I'm wrong.

[she sounds totally chill about the prospect of draco being upset with her, so obviously she doesn't think it's a relationship-threatening kind of upset]
